Misc. Notes
One night Dave was out cattin’ around over on Pine Creek. He’d ridden the little black mule and rode home late at night by Dry Pond rather than the long way home down to Redmond and up Bear Creek. Dry Pond Road took him by Dry Pond Cemetery, where Jim XXXX had been buried that day. Now Dave had had a touch or two that evening while he’d been out cattin’. He rode the little black mule by the fence at the lower end of the cemetery just as a panther jumped up on the fence and ran along beside them, screaming, “Ooooo, Jimmy, is that you? Jimmy, is that you?” Dave put the whip to the black mule and near ran him to death back to Betty Cove. He was so scared the he jumped off the mule in the yard and let him run under the barn while Dave ran into the house and slammed the door. He made Sallie go out and unsaddle the mule. That was the end of Dave’s cattin’ around.
